The Veritas Story

How it began…

Veritas became a vision for me following my own experience building our family homes in the early 2000s. I’ve been a customer myself to a spectrum of different builders and deeply identify with the uncertainty and excitement that goes along with building (or renovating) your family home. These experiences helped shape my business model and operating style to maximise customer satisfaction and maintain integrity in the construction industry. My vision was to provide a product and service that will create a win/win result for the customer, community, and business.

My first experience involved contracting a project home builder to deliver my first family home in 2000. No doubt, they did a beautiful job, and we were very thankful. However, we discovered many loopholes in the process. The project home we had seen was nothing like what was offered in our contract. Basic furnishings such as the down lights, tiles, blinds, kitchen design and wardrobe fittings attracted out of pocket costs. It seemed almost everything required an upgrade or additional charge. The day came for us to move in and we were left with no driveway, patio or landscaping. These things were arranged by us weeks after move-in. Furthermore, once the keys were handed to us we only had a few weeks to report any issues. Only months later we saw cracks and leakages, at this point the onus was on us to resolve these. Our second experience involved contracting a private builder for our family home in 2009. Amongst other challenges, our biggest was the massive iterations to initial construction estimates post signing the contract. The builder made some basic miscalculations on our project and we were expected to produce tens of thousands of dollars halfway through construction.

These experiences drove me to conceptualise a business model designed that put the customer at the centre of operations. I committed to use my professionalism, high work ethics and standards and experience to the residential construction industry.

In 2014 I took a leap of faith and left behind a high profile, corporate senior leadership position and started my business. I have never looked back.  background is in civil engineering and project management. Equipped with the experience and skill set I knew there was much value to add to the industry. Furthermore, I carry a professional resume that stretches over 30 years, working in various senior leadership positions at top tier organisations including Woolworths, Caltex, Tracy Brunstrom & Hammond, Hyder Consulting amongst others. I’ve delivering a series of high-profile projects under budget and on time including Sydney Olympic infrastructure 2000, M5 East Motorway, The Peak – Haymarket, New Southern Railway to mention a few.

My business model puts the customer at the centre and ensures that we exceed expectations from the initial consult, design, construction, hand-over and beyond. My team and I have designed detailed SOPS, policies and checklists to ensure standardisation, transparency, accountability and professionalism at every level of business.
